2025 Georgia High School Football Predictions Week 5

Phil Jones gives his score predictions for the top six games being played in week 5 of the 2025 Georgia high school football season

South Gwinnett at Valdosta

The Valdosta Wildcats are coming off a big win over Tampa Jesuit last week at home, a 21-14 come from behind victory to improve to 4-0 on the season. Their final non region game will be against the visiting South Gwinnett Comets, who are 2-1 on the season. Can the Wildcats end the first half of their regular season schedule on a winning note and improve to 5-0 before starting the region 1-6A slate of games?

Say hello to 5-0 ‘Cats.

Phil’s Pick: Valdosta 35, South Gwinnett 13

Blessed Trinity at Milton

The next game in our 2025 Georgia high school football predictions for week 5 is Blessed Trinity at Milton.

This game matches a couple of top two teams in our ITG Next Georgia Top 10 Rankings, with the top-ranked Class 6A squad Milton Eagles hosting the Class 4A number 2 team in Blessed Trinity.

Both teams are coming off bye weeks, with Milton 2-1 on the season, and Blessed Trinity undefeated at 3-0. These two teams met last year with Milton defeating the Titans 28-14 in Roswell.

Will history repeat itself, or could Milton be looking at a 2-2 start to the season?

Time for a history lesson.

Phil’s Pick: Milton 28, Blessed Trinity 21

Douglas County at Buford

Despite a 3-1 start to the season, Douglas County’s high octane offense has been hampered with the absence of wide receiver Devin Carter to a hamstring injury, which has kept him out of the Tigers lineup from day one. According to the team’s coach Johnny White, he and the Tigers are hoping that Carter will be able to return to  the lineup soon. “We are hoping he’ll be back in the next couple of weeks,” White told me following his team’s loss to Hughes. Quarterback Mike Johnson was also hampered with the same injury earlier in the season, but is now healthy, Johnson said.

Douglas County must travel to Buford this week, and they’ll need all the good news they can get.

Phil’s Pick: Buford 42, Douglas County 33

Carrollton at Gainesville

A battle of Top 10 ranked teams as  Class 6A Carrollton travels to Class 5A  Gainesville in a battle of undefeated teams with state championship aspirations.

Carrollton is currently ranked #3 in our ITG Next Georgia Top 10, while Gainesville is ranked 3rd in our Class 5A poll.

Last season these two teams met up in West Georgia, as an undefeated Gainesville squad travelled to Grisham stadium to battle a Trojans team who were also without a loss entering the week 5 matchup.

The biggest difference is that last year this game featured the state’s top QB in Carrollton’s Juju Lewis. This season has seen Joey King’s offense split snaps between two different quarterbacks with freshman CJ Cypher, and senior Mason Holtzclaw.

Gainesville has their same guy back with Clemson commit Kareem Hughley running the offense.

Can the Red Elephants and Coach Josh Niblett avenge last year’s defeat?

Phil’s Pick: Gainesville 28, Carrollton 24

Colquitt County at Lee County

This top 10 battle matches the Class 5A Lee County Trojans, ranked #4, against the Class 6A Colquitt County Packers ranked #8.

Colquitt County is coming off a bye week, while Lee County is coming off a…half week? The Trojans hosted Hapeville Charter for two quarters of football from the original game on August 22nd, which was halted due to weather after the first half. The game was 0-0 after the first two quarters, but when the teams got together on Tuesday, September 2nd to resume the final half of football, Lee County won 28-13. Colquitt’s last game resulted in the Packers first loss at North Gwinnett two weeks ago.

This is literally a coin flip.

Phil’s Pick: Colquitt County 28, Lee County 21

Kell at Lowndes

Another battle of Top 10 teams as the undefeated Vikings host what could be their toughest test of the season so far in the Kell Longhorns. The Vikings are 4-0 and ranked #6 in our ITG Next Georgia Class 6A poll, while Kell is 3-1 and ranked #10 in our Class 4A Top 10 poll.

Lowndes QB Jayce Johnson is expected to make his return after having not played in the Vikings first four games. His absence hasn’t really made a major difference with the Lowndes offense, who is averaging 44.5 points per game so far.  Kell is averaging just over 32 points per game through their first four games.

Both teams are coming off big wins last week, with Lowndes defeating Manatee 42-7, and the Longhorns of Bobby May winning their matchup against Wheeler 42-28.

Phil’s Pick: Lowndes 35, Kell 28
