NFL Week 3 overreactions

USA Today’s Lorenzo Reyes breaks down the biggest NFL storylines from Week 3.

Sports Seriously

Now that narratives and opinions are forming around the 2025 NFL season, Week 4 is shaping up to be the most revealing set of matchups yet. After a bunch of close games and some unexpected results in Week 3, featuring a dizzying array of blocked kicks and impactful special teams moments, there could be some separation on top with summer over and fall officially here.

The drama could begin as early as Thursday Night Football when the very competitive NFC West will be spotlighted when the Seattle Seahawks face the Arizona Cardinals. The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, two AFC contenders off to 1-2 starts, highlight Sunday afternoon action and it guarantees either Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson will sport a 1-3 record heading into October.

But there are also intriguing games in the NFC, where the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles hit the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with each team putting their undefeated start to the season on the line. A Sunday night showdown between the Green Bay Packers and sliding Dallas Cowboys, as well as two Monday night games (Jets at Dolphins, Bengals at Broncos), wrap up the Week 4 slate.

Here is an early look at picks, predictions and odds for all of the Week 4 games on the 2025 NFL schedule:

NFL Week 4 game predictions, picks

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 3:40 p.m. ET.

  • Date: Thursday, Sept. 25
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
  • Location: State Farm Stadium (Glendale, Arizona)
  • TV: None
  • StreamingAmazon Prime, NFL+
  • Spread: Seahawks (-1)

Sporting News: Seahawks 21, Cardinals 20

“The Seahawks are 2-1 with Sam Darnold at quarterback, and a healthy Kenneth Walker III has been a difference maker on the ground. Will that hold against a Cardinals’ run defense that has allowed just 76.3 rushing yards per game? Seattle has won the last four meetings in Arizona. It’s a toss-up on Thursday Night Football.”

Arizona Republic: Seahawks 24, Cardinals 17

“This is a pivotal NFC West rivalry game on Thursday Night Football. The Cardinals will even wear their new “Rivalries” jersey in it. It won’t help them get a victory. Arizona will miss James Conner in a loss to a Seattle team that is starting to find its stride.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 9:30 a.m. ET
  • Location: Croke Park (Dublin, Ireland)
  • TV: NFL Network
  • Streaming: Fubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Vikings (-2.5)

CBS Sports: Steelers 20, Vikings 27

“Carson Wentz got sacked three times in the first half against the Bengals, and now, he’ll be going up against a Steelers defense that racked up five sacks against the Patriots. Wentz probably would have been sacked more in Week 3, but the Vikings only threw the ball six times in the second half because they had such a huge lead.”

Sports Illustrated: Steelers cover

“The Vikings are in a huge sell-high spot after their dominant win against the Cincinnati Bengals … Still trying to figure out just how good this Pittsburgh team is, but Aaron Rodgers has been solid at quarterback, and Mike Tomlin will have a solid game plan against a banged-up Vikings squad.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta)
  • TV: CBS
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Commanders (-1.5)

New York Post: Take the Commanders (with Daniels)

“This betting line doesn’t give proper respect to the possibility that Jayden Daniels plays in Week 4 after not being ruled officially out until Friday last week with a knee sprain.”

Covers.com: Falcons upset

“The Falcons are not as bad as they appeared to be last week. That was a tough spot for them coming off a prime-time win vs. the Vikings. Now, with a week to stew … we get their best effort in an upset win vs. the Commanders.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: Highmark Stadium (Orchard Park, New York)
  • TV: CBS

  • Spread: Bills (-16.5)

Sporting News: Bills 31, Saints 16

Buffalo failed to cover at a 12.5-point spread in Week 3, but that was a division rival. New Orleans trailed 38-6 at halftime in a blowout loss at Seattle. This season, NFL teams are 1-4 against the spread as an underdog of eight points or more. Knowing that, the Saints have to run a little bit against a Buffalo defense that allows 146 yards per game on the ground.”

Sports Illustrated: Bills cover big spread

“There’s nothing the Saints can do to remain competitive in this game with Spencer Rattle as their quarterback. Unless the Bills have an F performance, they’ll run away with this one.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: Ford Field (Detroit)
  • TV: FOX
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Lions (-9)

CBS Sports: Browns 20, Lions 17

“The Browns have faced three very good offenses, but the defense hasn’t blinked: They’ve given up the fewest yards in the NFL, they have the third-most sacks and they’re only surrendering 2.3 yards per rushing attempt, which is the best number in the league. If you can get pressure on Jared Goff, the Lions are going to struggle and we saw that in a Week 1 game where the Detroit got dominated by the Packers.”

Arizona Republic: Lions 23, Browns 20

“The Browns showed us something in their comeback win over the Green Bay Packers (which we did not see coming). Quinshon Judkins gives Cleveland a different element at running back and could make this game very close with Detroit on a short week.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: NRG Stadium (Houston)
  • TV: CBS
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Texans (-7)

Covers.com: Texans cover

“The Titans have a bad rookie QB in Cam Ward, a head coach who will likely be shown the door this year, and a bottom 5 defense. If the Texans can’t get in the win column here in a big way, then so be it.”

Sporting News: Texans 23, Titans 20

“Two AFC South teams with matching 0-3 records are desperate for a victory here. The Titans rank 30th in the NFL in run defense (145.7 ypg), which should help a Houston offense that has struggled running the ball. Cam Ward still is looking for his first win – and Tennessee has won four of the last five games in Houston.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Massachusetts)
  • TV: FOX
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Patriots (-5.5)

Sports Illustrated: Patriots win and cover

“The Patriots are in a great buy-low spot right now. What’s more important is their underlying metrics. … Few people are as high on the Patriots as they were in the offseason, but after a slow start, now is the time to buy low on them. They’re a step above the Panthers and will prove that on Sunday.”

Arizona Republic: Panthers 24, Patriots 20

“The Panthers have outscored opponents 49-0 since falling behind to Arizona 27-3 in the third quarter in NFL Week 2. Bryce Young and company will continue to thrive in a win at New England, which is interestingly 0-2 at home this season and 1-0 on the road.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, New Jersey)
  • TV: CBS
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Chargers (-6.5)

Action Network: Chargers stay hot

The Chargers certainly look the part early in the season. The Bolts sit alone atop the AFC West standings at 3-0 entering Week 4 after stringing together an impressive trio of wins against all three of their division rivals to open the season. Justin Herbert is playing like an MVP candidate. Jesse Minter’s defense has been dominant so far. Everything is clicking for the Chargers right now.”

Covers.com: Giants won’t cover

“Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart, hell, even Kirby Smart. It doesn’t matter… the Chargers cover this one easily.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • Location: Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, Florida)
  • TV: FOX
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Eagles (-3.5)

CBS Sports: Buccaneers 23, Eagles 20

“The problem for the Eagles is that if there’s one team that has dominated them under Nick Sirianni, it’s the Buccaneers. Todd Bowles doesn’t regularly outcoach very many people, but he ALWAYS outcoaches Sirianni. Bowles is 4-1 in his past five games against Sirianni and a big reason for that is because the Bucs have limited Philly to just 17.4 points per game. … Jalen Hurts is 18-0 in the past 18 games that he has started and finished. The last time he lost came in Week 4 of the 2024 season against … the Buccaneers.”

New York Post: Go with the Eagles

“Tampa Bay will likely be without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin for this matchup. … How they are expected to survive, let alone win, against the Eagles without two of their top offensive weapons is tough to get on board with. The Buccaneers’ offense has taken a step back so far this year and the Eagles, who haven’t looked their best yet, should see their odds go up if and when Evans is declared out.”

  • Spread: Rams (-3.5)

ESPN: Colts cover on the road

“The Colts are off to a 3-0 start and are 3-0 against the spread this season. Daniel Jones leads the league in yards per attempt, and Jonathan Taylor looks unstoppable behind an Indianapolis offensive line that ranks fourth in run block win rate. Meanwhile, the Rams just blew a 19-point lead to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3. The Colts’ balanced offense and positive momentum make them an appealing play on the road against the Rams.”

CBS Sports: Rams 27, Colts 24

“The Colts defense has been good this season, but it hasn’t been tested: They’ve face Tua Tagovailoa (Week 1), Bo Nix (Week 2) and Cam Ward (Week 3). Not to knock those guys, but they’re not Matthew Stafford.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 4:05 p.m. ET
  • Location: Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara, California)
  • TV: FOX
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: 49ers (-3)

Sporting News: 49ers 28, Jaguars 21

“The 49ers are still waiting on the return of Brock Purdy (toe), which opens the door for Mac Jones to start against his former team. Jacksonville has forced three turnovers in each of its first three games under first-year coach Liam Coen – but the 49ers’ defense will be the difference here.”

Sports Illustrated: 49ers cover

“The San Francisco 49ers keep squeaking by their opponents, which might make you think they’re on the brink of a losing streak, but their underlying metrics say they should be winning these games by a wider margin.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
  • Location: Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City, Missouri)
  • TV: CBS
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Ravens (-2.5)

Arizona Republic: Ravens 30, Chiefs 23

“This AFC showdown could prove pivotal, and we could see it going either way. We just don’t see the Chiefs being able to match the Ravens’ offense in this one. It would take a dynamic defensive performance from Kansas City to have a shot. Patrick Mahomes and company will fall to 0-2 at home and 1-3 on the season.”

Sporting News: Ravens 24, Chiefs 21

“Kansas City has not had 250 passing yards in a game yet. The Ravens are coming off a short week and have played against two elite offenses in Buffalo and Detroit. Lamar Jackson is 1-4 straight up against the Chiefs, including playoffs.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 4:25 p.m. ET
  • Location: Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas)
  • TV: CBS
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Bears (-1)

ESPN: Bears cover

“Over his past two games, Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has thrown for 505 yards and six touchdowns. There are positive signs of development for Williams on the tape, too. More poise and patience in the pocket. Yes, the Bears’ subpar run defense (allowing 5.5 yards per carry) could open the door for Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty to get on track, but take Chicago and coach Ben Johnson this Sunday in Vegas.”

Sports Illustrated: Back the Raiders

“Geno Smith hasn’t had his best stuff the past two weeks, but … he can do damage against a Bears’ secondary … giving up 8.0 yards per throw. When looking at general metrics between these two teams, there’s little to separate them.”

  • Date: Sunday, September 28
  • Time: 8:20 p.m. ET
  • Location: AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
  • TV: NBC
  • StreamingPeacock, Fubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Packers (-7)

Action Network: Take the Packers

“It’s the Micah Parsons Revenge Game … The Packers’ offense struggled mightily in the loss to the Browns, scoring only 10 points on 230 total yards. However, this should be the perfect get-right spot for them against a terrible Cowboys defense that just surrendered career performances to Russell Wilson and Caleb Williams in back-to-back games.”

ESPN: Green Bay wins big

“Have you watched the Dallas defense? It made Russell Wilson look like John Elway and Caleb Williams look like Patrick Mahomes in back-to-back weeks. Throw in the fact that CeeDee Lamb is banged up, and the Packers are coming off a horrific loss at Cleveland, and you have all the makings of a Sunday night rout.”

Watch Sunday Night Football on Peacock

  • Date: Monday, September 29
  • Time: 7:15 p.m. ET
  • Location: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, Florida)
  • TV: ESPN
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Dolphins (-2.5)

Sporting News: Dolphins 23, Jets 20

“It’s a battle of 0-3 teams. The Jets have been close in heartbreaking losses to Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay under Aaron Glenn. Justin Fields (concussion) could return here. Miami has allowed 145 rushing yards per game – which ranks 29th in the NFL. How hot is Mike McDaniel’s seat if Miami loses here? This one comes down to turnovers – and neither team has forced one through three games.”

Sports Illustrated: Take the Jets

They’ve both had disastrous starts to their season. The Jets have been better defensively, while the Dolphins have been better offensively, but as a whole, this is an AFC East matchup to forget. … The apparent implosion of the Dolphins’ locker room should work in our favor with Aaron Glenn and the Jets looking like they’re at least building towards something.”

  • Date: Monday, September 29
  • Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
  • Location: Empower Field at Mile High (Denver)
  • TV: ABC
  • StreamingFubo, NFL+
  • Spread: Broncos (-7)

ESPN: Bengals cover

“Jake Browning is certainly competent. He proved this when he replaced Burrow in 2023. This WR duo is great. Chase Brown should bounce back. As for the Broncos, they haven’t looked special, though facing the Cincinnati defense should help. Expect both offenses to put on a show.”

Arizona Republic: Broncos 30, Bengals 17

“The Bengals are 2-1, but have been outscored this season, 91-58. They are going to get outscored in this one against a Broncos team that has lost two straight games on last-second field goals. Denver’s defense won’t let this one come down to a field goal.”
