Reaction and analysis on NFL’s 2025 season schedule release and must-see games

The Jets moved on from Aaron Rodgers, even if he can’t quit them. Now, the Aaron Glenn era will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 7 at MetLife Stadium; it’s a chance for Glenn to really make his mark by, potentially, beating the quarterback he shoved out the door to make way for his new culture.
It will also be a chance for Jets quarterback Justin Fields to get revenge on a Steelers team that benched him last season despite leading Pittsburgh to a 4-2 start. He spurned them in order to sign with the Jets.
Another byproduct of Rodgers’ departure from the Jets: They are no longer viewed as a team with much national interest. Over the last two seasons, they were among the league leaders in primetime games because of Rodgers — a scheduling decision that didn’t exactly bear fruit for the NFL.
Now Rodgers is gone and the Jets are only scheduled for two primetime games this season. Thirteen games will kick off at 1 p.m. The lack of national attention should allow the Jets to “move in silence,” which has been Glenn’s stated goal all offseason.
