Live award winners updates, Myles Garrett a finalist

The NFL is handing out its top awards for the 2024 season Thursday night, as well as introducing the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s newest members.
It’s all part of the NFL Honors awards ceremony, which has become an annual event ahead of the Super Bowl. The Cleveland Browns will have a presence at the event, with Myles Garrett as a finalist to repeat as Defensive Player of the Year.
Follow along here tonight for updates:
The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award went to Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Arik Armstead. He was chosen out of a group of 32 player representing every team for his work on and off the field.
The Browns’ winner was cornerback Denzel Ward.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen won his first NFL Most Valuable Player award. Allen had four more first-place votes and 21 more votes overall than Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was looking for his third MVP.
The NFL Coach of the Year was the Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell led Minnesota to a 14-3 record, but the top NFC wild card team lost in the Wild Card game to the Rams.
San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle won the NFL’s Salute to Service Award.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen was the FedEx Air Player of the Year. Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was the FedEx Ground
Mariano Talamantez and Sophia Guitron were this year’s winners of the Latino Youth Honors Award.
There were only four players who were elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025. They were:
- Minnesota Vikings/Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen
- Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe
- Philadelphia Eagles/New Orleans Saints/Oakland Raiders cornerback Eric Allen
- San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates
Who was among the biggest names not to make it? New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is a two-time coach of the year winner. Lions fan Megan Stefanski won the NFL’s Fan of the Year award.
Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels already has the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Now, his Hail Mary pass to beat the Chicago Bears was voted the NFL’s Moment of the Year.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is waiting to see if he’ll win his first NFL Most Valuable Player award. For now, he’ll have to settle for knowing he’s the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award winner.
Los Angeles Rams defensive end Jared Verse was honored as the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Verse had 66 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, 18 QB hits and 75-plus pressures.
The NFL has taken on a strong push to popularize flag football around the country. Part of that push is awarding a male and female Flag Football Player of the Year, which this year went to Daniel Berry and Josie Clayton.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending injury in 2023. He was an offensive force in 2024, which is why he was Comeback Player of the Year.
Burrow, a two-time winner of the award, led the Bengals to the brink of the playoffs. He led the league in both passing yards and passing touchdowns.
The Eagles hope to win the Super Bowl on Sunday. On Thursday, running back Saquon Barkley won Offensive Player of the Year.
Barkley, who signed as a free agent after starting his career with the Giants, rushed for 2,005 yards in the regular season.
There will be no repeat for the Browns’ Myles Garrett as Defensive Player of the Year. Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II won the award.
Garrett finished third behind Surtain and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson in the voting.
The first award given out on the show was the least surprising. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was the run-away winner of the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Daniels, the No. 2 pick in last April’s draft out of LSU, led the Commanders back to the playoffs. Washington lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game.
Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, who’ll be a free agent this offseason, has been a popular guest during Super Bowl week in New Orleans. Winston, who spent four seasons with the Saints, made an appearance on the Red Carpet Show.
The first award given out happened before the show began. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson won the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Johnson, who was instrumental in the Lions going 15-2 and earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC, recently was hired as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears.
