2025 NFL owners meetings: 10 takeaways from New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn presser

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made an appearance at the 2025 NFL owners meetings in Florida.
While there, Glenn did much more than just pose for the league’s annual head coaches photo… he had his influence on those talks and chatted with the media on all-things Jets.

With that, here are 10 takeaways from Glenn’s interview during the 2025 NFL owners meetings:

More than a defensive coach…
Glenn comes to New York after spending four years as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions… and the Jets will remember him as a cornerback on their own roster back in the day.
Despite that, Glenn said the defense will not be his only focus. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will be hearing from the head coach regarding the offense, too:
Competition (even kind of at quarterback)
“There’s going to be competition,” Glenn said. “That’s across the board.”
When asked about Mougey calling quarterback Justin Fields the starting QB for the Jets in 2025, Glenn pumped the brakes a bit. He did not say it’s a full out competition between Fields and Tyrod Taylor, but Glenn made sure to note there will be battles everywhere the roster.
‘By design’
Glenn wants to change the culture for the Jets. This one speaks for itself, as do all the buyouts the team has offered to many employees in recent weeks:
Praises Lazard
When general manager Darren Mougey spoke, he indicated the team is looking at working out a new contract with receiver Allen Lazard in an attempt to keep him in New York. It appears Glenn is on the same page.

Glenn praised the “magnitude” of player that Lazard is…
Tush push
The NFL has voted to table the discussion on the “tush push” play made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles. It could still exist in 2025… and that’s fine with Glenn.
All he wants to do? Stop it (on the field).
Draft and develop?
Despite going with Fields in free agency, Glenn sounds like he’s in favor of building through the NFL draft.
And that means keeping ones already picked…
Naturally, that brings up the Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson topic.
Fans want the corner and receiver signed to long-term extensions. Mougey said that will heat up following the 2025 draft and Glenn is on board with the idea of keeping the two young stars.

The former defensive coordinator added that he believes Gardner can be the “best in the league.”
And a clean slate
Rumors surrounding Wilson last season indicated he was unhappy with the Jets. Much of that had to do with quarterback Aaron Rodgers (& receiver Davante Adams), reportedly, and both are gone.
Regardless, Glenn doesn’t really care either way. It’s a clean slate in the coach’s mind for Wilson.
Mixed running back reviews
In discussing his running back including the likes of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, depending on who you talk to, there were mixed reviews from Glenn.
Some considered it good news for Hall, specifically. Others called it interesting…
Justin, specifically…
As one could guess, Fields got plenty of approval from his new head coach…
