Former Gwinnett Star Kicked Off Auburn Football Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A former football star from Gwinnett County has been kicked off the team at Auburn University.
Kyle Davis, a sophomore wide receiver and Archer High School alum, did not practice last week and did not travel with the team for its game Saturday with LSU.
“Kyle Davis has been dismissed form our team for breaking team rules,” Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said during a news conference Tuesday. “We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank coach Malzahn, Auburn football and the Auburn family for giving me the opportunity to be a part of an amazing football program and learning institution,” Davis wrote, according to the Alabama news site. “I request that the media respect me and my family’s privacy moving forward. Auburn will always have a place in my heart. War Damn, KD.”
Davis had been suspended for undisclosed reasons from Auburn’s season opener against Georgia Southern and didn’t take part in spring practice. Despite that, he had caught seven passes for 201 yards in five games this season.
As a freshman, Davis played in 13 games in 2016, catching 12 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.
At Archer, Davis was ranked among the top 10 wide receiver recruits in the nation by 247 Sports and ESPN. He was named to all-county, all Gwinnett metro and all state teams, racking up a career total of 1,499 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
He also ran track and played basketball at Archer and is a kinesiology student at Auburn.
