Former Buford Football Player to Be Inducted Into Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame

The six inductees into the 2013 Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame include former Buford High School football player Darius Walker, who in 2003 scored 46 touchdowns, breaking Herschel Walker’s Georgia single-season record of 42.

Other inductees this year include:

  • Josh Wolff – Soccer – Parkview High School
  • Courtney Swaim Trimble – Golf – Duluth High School
  • Dave Hunter – Football Coach – Brookwood High School
  • Louis Williams – Basketball – South Gwinnett High School
  • Sherill Baker – Basketball – Greater Atlanta Christian School

During his high school career, Walker, who is now a sports analyst for Fox, rushed for 5,676 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns. Walker played for Notre Dame and, during his first season for the Irish, set the freshman rushing record, gaining 786 yards on 185 carries (4.2 average), breaking a 30-year-old school record. Walker played in the NFL from 2007-2009.

The six honorees will be inducted in the Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony sponsored by the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation on Saturday, May 4, at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Tickets are $12 each and may be ordered on the Gwinnett County Public School Foundation’s website at www.gcps-foundation.org.

A portion of each ticket will help fund student scholarships, teacher grants and academic initiatives in Gwinnett County Public Schools.
