Mahomes plots big-play comeback with Kelce, Chiefs after Super Bowl loss
The Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last season was rough. Obviously, a Super Bowl loss will be difficult for any team, but the Chiefs had the chance to make history with a three-peat, so the loss stung a little extra.

Heading into the 2025 NFL season, quarterback Patrick Mahomes revealed what he plans to do differently to make it all the way to victory this time around.
From surgical to explosive: Mahomes shares Chiefs’ new offensive mindset
In the 2024 season, the Chiefs won 15 games, but 11 of those were won by just a score. Mahomes is determined to bounce back from the Super Bowl loss by bringing more explosiveness to Kansas City’s offense in 2025.
Speaking at the team’s kickoff luncheon, Mahomes said the Chiefs plan to emphasize big plays – especially deep passes to Travis Kelce – while still maintaining efficiency in the red zone and on third down.

“And so it’s my job to give these guys chances to go out there and make big plays. So a lot of deep passes to Travis and let him go out there and make plays.”
The Chiefs ranked near the bottom of the NFL in explosive plays last season, finishing 27th in passing plays of 20+ yards and tied for 31st in 40+ yard completions. By contrast, the champion Eagles thrived in that category.
Mahomes believes a more aggressive approach, paired with Kelce’s playmaking ability, can make the Chiefs not just dangerous, but must-watch in 2025.
