Incidentally, some Newcastle fans found out about Šeško’s possible move to Manchester United live on The Overlap: Fan Debate, when Jamie Carragher revealed the news, resulting in immediate frustration from the fans.
Midway through the show Carragher informed them that Manchester United had offered €75m with €10m add-ons for the 22-year-old Slovenian striker. As seen on the instagram clip, Carra then said that the striker “favors Old Trafford,” and the whole fan public went into meltdown.

“Here We Go Again” — The Familiar Pain for Newcastle Fans
The reaction on the show was quick and emotional. One Newcastle fan summed it up with “here we go again”, the feeling of déjà vu that has haunted fans for years who feel the club never closes the big deals.
Another fan was more frustrated not just at losing the player but at the club’s ambition saying “It’s past the point of being annoyed… it keeps happening. I’m annoyed at my own club for not putting their money where their mouth is.”

As the comments got heated another fan chimed in with a harsher view. “It’s not about the money” they said. “You’ve got to realise where you are in the food chain. Man United might finish 15th and you might make Champions League, but no one dreams of playing for Newcastle over Manchester United.”
“Alan Shearer Did, Mate”
That didn’t go unchallenged. A third fan quickly replied with a line that broke the tension and won the crowd over: “Alan Shearer did, mate”. That comment got a laugh from everyone, including Carragher.

It also reminded everyone of a precious moment for the Magpies, when Alan Shearer turned down Manchester United twice in his career and chose to join his boyhood club Newcastle in 1996 despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s interest.
That’s an important moment in Newcastle’s modern history and a rare example of a top player choosing the North East over Old Trafford.
Where the Sesko Race Stands
The fans were emotional but the transfer is real. Manchester United’s offer for Šeško is serious and multiple reports say the player is has reached total agreement with United. Newcastle have made an offer but the fact that the player favors United has swung it in their favor for now. It’s now up to clubs to discuss.

Shearer himself has commented on Newcastle’s quiet summer saying the transfer window has been underwhelming so far and that not landing big targets like Šeško would be a big miss.
Whether that backfires for Newcastle remains to be seen. For the fans it’s just the same old story: another big name slipping away, another transfer season of disappointment.
