Believe it or not, a fan was ejected from Sunday’s game between the Washington Mystics and Phoenix Mercury.

During the third quarter of action, Mercury star Kahleah Cooper was trying to get around a screen set by her teammate. Instead, she ended up losing her wig. She quickly picked it up off the hardwood and ran into the locker room to take care of herself.
After a timeout was called on the floor, players on the Mercury informed the refs and security that an opposing fan was making fun of Cooper losing her wig. Veteran forward Alyssa Thomas and head coach Nate Tibbetts were the most vocal about this situation.
It didn’t take long for security to remove this fan from CareFirst Arena. It’s unclear if they’ll be allowed back at future WNBA games.

Judging by the reactions online, a lot of sports fans don’t agree with the WNBA’s decision to penalize the fan for laughing.
“This is why no one should take this sport seriously,” one person declared.
“Man the WNBA is always going viral for the wrong reasons,” another person said.
“They gotta know how damaging that is to the perception of the league,” a fan commented.
“Very unserious organization for kicking someone out for laughing,” a social media user added.

“The brutal truth of sports is why we love them,” another person pointed out. “If you can’t take the public nature of competition than don’t play the game.”
Cooper has not commented on this matter, but maybe that’ll change due to all the debates online.
As for the game itself, the Mercury defeated the Mystics by a final score of 88-72. They’re currently third in the WNBA standings at 16-9.
Next up for the Mercury is a showdown with the Indiana Fever, which will take place at 7 p.m. ET.
