Taylor Swift Out for Super Bowl Halftime Show After NFL ‘Flatly Refused’ to Meet Her Demands
The possibility of Taylor Swift taking over the Super Bowl halftime stage has been shut down.
After months of speculation, a new report has confirmed that the pop star will not perform after the NFL rejected her conditions for the deal.
According to Rob Shuter’s Substack, Swift’s team made it clear that she wanted terms that matched her global stature. “She wasn’t asking for favors, she was asking for respect,” one music executive said.
The sticking point was the league’s long-standing policy of not paying halftime performers. Swift reportedly requested to retain ownership of her performance and secure slots promoting her own projects. The NFL, however, “flatly refused,” according to insiders.
The decision reflects a sharp divide in expectations. “They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure,’” a source explained. “Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure.” Another insider close to the talks added, “She wanted a deal that reflected her value. Without that, she wasn’t going to move forward.”
Executives stressed that Swift’s influence is unmatched. “Taylor knows her worth,” one source said. “She knows the kind of ratings she brings, the global attention she commands.” Another insider noted, “She doesn’t need the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl absolutely needs her.”
The NFL has long defended its position by pointing to the massive audience—over 100 million viewers—treating the platform as payment in itself. For many artists, that tradeoff has been enough. But for Swift, whose Eras Tour has already broken records worldwide, insiders say the platform offered little incentive without concrete control over her own show.
With Swift officially out, the NFL is now exploring other options. Adele is still reportedly in discussions to headline, while Miley Cyrus has also been mentioned as a contender.
Still, as one source put it, “Taylor’s name was the one that made people pay attention. Once her talks ended, everything changed.”
