Travis Kelce wins Walter Payton Man of the Year Charity Challenge

For the second time, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has won the Charity Challenge for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. The NFL announced the nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in early December. Kelce was selected for the Chiefs, his second time earning the nomination. The award recognizes players who make an impact in their communities off the field. It is the highest honor in the league. While Kelce hasn’t won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award itself — the winner won’t be announced until Feb. 6 — he has won the charity challenge. The charity challenge gives fans a chance to vote for their favorite nominee. Fans could post on X, formerly known as Twitter, or vote on NFL.com/ManOfTheYear. Kelce also won this challenge in 2020-21. He is the first player to win twice in the program’s 10-year history, according to the Chiefs.”Just wanted to give a big shoutout to the Kingdom on social media. I heard that we won the Walter Payton charity challenge on social media,” Kelce said in a video posted by the Chiefs on X. “I always got faith in the Kingdom to show up and show out and support theirs. Just another reason why I love you guys. “Let’s go get it in the playoffs, though, man. I’ll see you guys up at Arrowhead.” Kelce earned the most votes this year and will receive $35,000 for his charity, Eighty-Seven & Running. Kelce runs the nonprofit to provide opportunities for growth and learning to children in need in the Kansas City area. Kelce and his foundation work closely with Operation Breakthrough, another nonprofit in Kansas City that helps disadvantaged youth. The two came together to create the Ignition Lab, which provides real-world STEM experiences for teens. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes won the challenge in 2022, and former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu won it in 2021.
