The trial was delayed multiple days this week due to winter weather.

ATLANTA — The retrial of three men accused in the 2022 killing of Bradley Coleman, a father and former high school coach, continues Friday in Gwinnett County.

Three suspects, Josiah Hughley, Miles Collins, and David Jarrad Booker, face charges including murder, car hijacking, aggravated assault and gang-related offenses. Their retrial follows a mistrial last year due to what officials described as a “technical issue within the legal proceedings.”

Because of winter weather, the court has not been in session since last Friday. However, proceedings are expected to continue on January 24.

What happened on Friday

Most of the day was filled with testimony from Gwinnett County detectives who worked on the case.

The morning began with Allen Harrison, a sergeant with Gwinnett County Police’s robbery unit.

Harrison essentially reviewed further evidence in the case, including surveillance footage of the suspects, which helped officers locate them. Video was also shown of Josiah Hughley and Miles Collins being questioned by police after their arrests.

Following a brief break for lunch, the court resumed with attorneys questioning Corporal Adam Post, who worked with the Gwinnett County gang task force. Post’s testimony was essentially used as context for the gang-related offenses faced by the defendants.

What happened last week in court

The morning began with Jermiya Pledger, who has a child with one of the suspects, Miles Collins, taking the stand to review text messages sent between her and Collins.

As proceedings continued, more members of law enforcement, including individuals from Georgia State Patrol and even Atlanta Police, took the stand to discuss further evidence in the case, along with the eventual arrest of suspects.

Just before noon, the jury was released for the day.

More on the case

The shooting happened on July 10, 2022, at a QuikTrip gas station on Peachtree Parkway. Prosecutors say Coleman, 29, was inflating his tires when one of the suspects attempted to steal his car, leading to a struggle. A second suspect allegedly joined the altercation, during which a gunshot fatally struck Coleman.
