Philadelphia running back Saquon Barkley and the Eagles have had a memorable season.
Barkley rushed for more than 2,000 yards and lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LIX where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday in New Orleans.
However, Barkley and his teammates have something to look forward to Thursday night – the NFL Honors. The awards ceremony will recognize the top performers from the past season and Barkley and other Eagles are up for recognition.
Saquon Barkley’s case for MVP, Offensive POY
Barkley is a finalist for Associated Press Most Valuable Player and Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year.
Barkley, whom the Eagles signed as a free agent in the offseason, had a record-breaking first season in Philadelphia, finishing with 2,005 rushing yards.
Barkley is the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. He is in eighth place on the single-season rushing list. He’s 2 yards ahead of O.J. Simpson (2,003 yards in 1973) and 1 yard behind Chris Johnson (2,006 in 2009). Dickerson holds the record with 2,105.

Barkley set the Eagles’ single-season rushing record in the fourth quarter against the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 8, breaking LeSean McCoy’s record of 1,607 yards in 2013. He also broke Wilbert Montgomery’s record for most 100-yard games in a season, finishing with 11.
Barkley crossed the 2,000 total-yard mark, finishing with 2,283. He’s the fourth Eagle to cross 2,000 total yards. Barkley’s 2,283 yards from scrimmage is 13th most all-time in the NFL.
- Linebacker Zack Baun is a finalist for AP Defensive Player of the Year. Baun was a force on the league’s top defense. He finished the season with 3½ sacks, 93 solo tackles and five forced fumbles.
- Cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell were both named finalists for AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. DeJean, a second-round draft pick out of Iowa, finished the season with three fumble recoveries and 51 combined tackles. He also returned 21 kicks for 211 yards. Mitchell, a first-round pick out of Toledo, had 46 combined tackles and 12 passes defended.
- Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is a finalist for AP Assistant Coach of the Year. Fangio led the Eagles’ defense, which allowed the fewest yards in the NFL, the fewest yards-per-play and the fewest passing yards. It was a dramatic turnaround after last season when the Eagles defense was 26th in yards allowed, 24th in yards-per-play and 31st in passing yards allowed.
