Who Seattle Seahawks reportedly met with at NFL combine
The Seattle Seahawks appear to be heavily focused on the class of offensive linemen in this year’s NFL Draft.
The NFL scouting combine wrapped Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and the Seahawks reportedly met with a slew of offensive linemen.
Ranking the Seattle Seahawks’ offseason needs by position group
At least 20 players have been reported as having formal or informal meetings with Seattle, including 12 who play on the O-line. The Seahawks also met with rising quarterback prospect Jaxson Dart and have reportedly met with one wide receiver, two tight ends and three defensive backs.
The offensive line was a major source of trouble once again for the Seahawks last season. They ranked 24th in run blocking and 26th in pass blocking, according to Pro Football Focus grading. PFF ranked the Seahawks’ O-line 31st in its end-of-season rankings. Additionally, Seattle allowed the third-most sacks (54) in the NFL.
Left tackle seems to be the only position that’s completely set in stone with Charles Cross protecting the blindside of quarterback Geno Smith. Seattle also has a starting-caliber right tackle in Abraham Lucas. However, Lucas has missed 21 games over the past two seasons while dealing with injuries and is heading into the final year of his rookie deal. Seattle have until May 1 to decide if they want to exercise Lucas’ fifth-year option, but that seems unlikely due to his injury history. A decision on Cross’ fifth-year option must be made by May 1 as well.
The three position on the interior of the offensive line all appear to be up for grabs as things stand with young, unproven players like guards Anthony Bradford, Sataoa Laumea, Christian Haynes and center Olu Oluwatimi all in the mix. Bradford started 11 games at right guard before going down with a season-ending knee injury last season. Laumea started six games at right guard. Haynes played sporadically at right guard throughout the season. And Oluwatimi started the final eight games at center after Connor Williams’ abrupt retirement midseason.
