Winners and losers from Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season – NBC Bay Area

The third Sunday of the 2025 NFL season delivered the goods.
From surprise results to impressive comebacks and mind-numbing turnovers, the early slate of Week 3 had it all.
In the four games from the late window, there were two game-winning field goals and two blowouts, with the Dallas Cowboys on the wrong end of one of them.
Here are the winners and losers from Sunday’s games:
WINNER: Eagles complete another comeback
The reigning Super Bowl champions refuse to lose.
Facing a 26-7 deficit to the Los Angeles Rams early in the third quarter, Jalen Hurts and Co. stormed back to win 33-26. It took touchdowns on three of Philly’s final four drives and two blocked field goals, but the Eagles are 3-0 for the third time in the last four seasons.
The Rams were poised to win it at the buzzer with Joshua Karty attempting a 44-yard field goal while trailing 27-26. But Jordan Davis snuck through to block the kick, recover it and sprint 61 yards for the touchdown. A.J. Brown, after a slow start to the year, came through in a big way — six receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.
LOSER: Jets, Texans and Titans – still winless
Three of the NFL’s 10 winless teams entering Week 3 lost in the early window: the Houston Texans, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans.
The Texans’ offense continued to struggle as it has all season so far, mustering just 10 points and turning it over three times in the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence didn’t do much (50% completions, no touchdowns, one interception), but the Texans couldn’t put together consistent drives.
New York had the best performance in defeat, overcoming a 23-6 fourth quarter deficit to take a 27-26 lead in the final two minutes on a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown. Baker Mayfield then did as he has done all three weeks this season, leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a game-winning drive capped off with a 36-yard game-winning kick as time expired.
The Titans, meanwhile, were uncompetitive in 41-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. They trailed 20-6 at halftime and 34-13 after three before a late touchdown to reach 20 points for the first time all season.
WINNER: Isaiah Rodgers and the Vikings’ defense
The first game after Joe Burrow injury couldn’t have gone worse for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Minnesota Vikings thoroughly dominated Jake Browning’s team on Sunday, cruising to a 34-3 halftime lead and eventual 48-10 victory.
Most of the credit for the win can be given to Isaiah Rodgers, who did it all in the first half. First it was an interception returned 87 yards for a touchdown. Then it was a forced fumble and recovery returned 66 yards for another touchdown. Rodgers later capped off the half with another forced fumble. He was the first player in NFL history with a pick-6, a fumble TD and two forced fumbles in a single game — and he did it in a half.
Browning was 19 of 27 for 140 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while Vikings QB Carson Wentz clearly won the Backup Bowl — 14 of 20 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. With J.J. McCarthy sidelined, the veteran QB provided a steady presence that the second-year QB hadn’t offered over the first two weeks.
LOSER: Packers fall for the trap game
One of the most loaded teams in the NFL suffered a shocking defeat on Sunday.
The Green Bay Packers were out of sorts from the jump, and the Cleveland Browns capitalized late for a 13-10 win at the buzzer on a 55-yard field goal by Andre Szmyt.
Jordan Love was sacked five times in the loss, and a blocked go-ahead field goal attempt with 22 seconds left gave the Browns a chance to steal the win. They did just that, as Joe Flacco worked his team into field goal range and Szmyt did the rest. The Packers are now 2-1, while the Browns get their first win to go to 1-2.
WINNER: Colts keep rolling
Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts are unstoppable. Imagine reading that sentence a month ago?
Shane Steichen’s squad improved to 3-0 with a 41-20 blowout road win over the division rival Tennessee Titans. Jones was, once again, steady under center — 18 of 25 for 228 yards and a touchdown. For a player that was outright released by the New York Giants last year and essentially free for the taking this spring, it’s been a remarkable first month of the season.
As for the Titans, No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward continues to go through growing pains. He was 23 of 38 for 219 yards, a touchdown and an interception to fall to 0-3.
LOSER: Ball security in Foxboro
The New England Patriots gave away a winnable game at home Sunday.
The final score says the Pittsburgh Steelers won 21-14, but it was largely thanks to the Patriots’ ineptitude. New England had five turnovers in the game, including two in the end zone as it was going to score. Patriots running backs had three fumbles (Rhamondre Stevenson had two, Antonio Gibson one). Drake Maye had an interception and a fumble lost (but otherwise had a solid outing).
Now 1-2, the Patriots have fallen behind in two home losses and beaten themselves along the way. They outgained the Steelers 368-202 in offensive yardage — the turnovers were just too costly. Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, took fourth on the all-time passing TD list in a quiet game with just 139 passing yards.
WINNER: Eddy Pineiro announces himself
The injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers managed to move to 3-0 despite losing another key name in Nick Bosa and Mac Jones playing through knee discomfort.
After Jones threw a late pick, it seemed like Kyler Murray and Arizona would push to a 3-0 start and a road upset. But Robert Saleh’s defense, led by Fred Warner, came up big to give Jones another chance.
Jones delivered, moving the chains quickly until the stage was set for a 35-yard field goal for new kicker Eddy Pineiro, who arrived last week following the release of Jake Moody. Pineiro made no doubts as he converted all three attempts on the day and kept San Francisco’s momentum rolling with the hope that key starters return soon.
LOSER: Saints can’t build off Week 2 performance
The New Orleans Saints gave the 49ers a decent scare last time out, eventually falling short in the dying minutes. Spencer Rattler and the defense showed several flashes of encouragement in what is expected to be another building season.
But the positive signs were nowhere to be seen in Seattle, where the Seahawks won 44-13 after leading 38-6 at halftime.
Sam Darnold only needed to complete 14 of 18 passes, while Tory Horton returned a punt 95 yards to the house to set a new franchise record. It was also Seattle’s first punt return score in 10 years.
WINNER: Dicker the Kicker
Similar to Pineiro helping the 49ers go 3-0 at home, the Los Angeles Chargers did the same via Cameron Dicker vs. the Denver Broncos.
Needing to come back down 20-13, Justin Herbert threw a dime on the move under pressure to Keenan Allen before Dicker converted a 43-yard field goal, his longest of the day, to win 23-20.
Los Angeles has also already played all three divisional opponents in Kansas City, Las Vegas and now Denver, which could be key for tiebreaker purposes down the line.
Bo Nix, meanwhile, did not look convincing again with just 153 passing yards, one touchdown and no picks on 14 of 25 completions.
LOSER: Cowboys blown out on the road
The Dallas Cowboys dropped to 1-2 while the Chicago Bears earned their first win of the season.
But while Dallas will get headlines for the 31-14 result, Caleb Williams almost went under the radar with a four-touchdown performance. He completed 19 of 28 passes for 298 yards, didn’t throw a pick and didn’t get sacked.
It all came without a proper complementary run game, as D’Andre Swift had just 33 ground yards on 13 carries. Williams’ 65-yard touchdown to Luther Burden III also set some encouraging marks for the young QB.
Meanwhile, Dak Prescott threw for 251 yards, one touchdown and two picks on 31 of 40 completions while being sacked twice. Javonte Williams rushed for 76 yards on 10 carries, but did lose a fumble. Joe Milton came in for reps with the game essentially sealed, but also threw a pick.
Dallas will need to avoid falling 1-3 next time out when it hosts the 2-1 Packers, who will be seeking a bounce back showing of their own.
Here are five things to know about Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams.
