Carrollton storms past North Gwinnett, 48-21, to advance to Georgia’s Class 6A state title game against Buford
CARROLLTON, Georgia, Dec. 5 — The No. 5/SN No. 5 Carrollton [GA] Trojans kept the heat on the SN NEXT No. 21 North Gwinnett [Suwanee, GA] Bulldogs all night Friday in a 48-21 win in Georgia’s GHSA Class 6A semifinals.
The Trojans now advance to take on the No. 2/SN No. 2 Buford [GA] Wolves in Georgia’s GHSA Class 6A state championship game. Buford was a 39-7 winner Friday night at the Valdosta [GA] Wildcats, and the Wolves will take over the No. 1 spot from the IMG Academy [Bradenton, FL] Ascenders next week in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25.
Carrollton could also move up, depending on the results from this weekend’s games, and the Class 6A title game could end up being a de facto national championship game as well. Both Buford and Carrollton will enter that game with 14-0 records.
The Trojans were relentless Friday night against the overmatched Bulldogs building a 13-0 first-quarter lead that quickly became a 27-0 lead at halftime. And even though North Gwinnett managed 21 second-half points, Carrollton continue to apply the pressure by scoring 21 of their own for the final margin.
