NBA unveils 2025 NBA Cup groups: Detroit Pistons will face early tests in tournament play
The NBA announced the groups for the Emirates NBA Cup 2025 on Wednesday, July 9.
The Detroit Pistons will be in “East Group B” with the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers. They will host the Magic and Sixers and face the Celtics and Nets on the road.

All four games will be played on “Cup Nights” scheduled from Oct. 31-Nov. 28. The six group winners — three from each conference — and a wild card from each conference will advance to the single-elimination quarterfinals,, which start Dec. 9, followed by the semifinals and then the championship game in Las Vegas on Dec. 16.

The full game schedules will be released in August. The NBA Cup opener and the quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be shown only on Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service.

The Pistons are looking to build on a surprise 44-win season that ended with a first-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks. They finished 3-1 in last season’s NBA Cup group stage, finishing second in their group but missing the quarterfinals on a tiebreaker.
Las Vegas Summer League tips off on Thursday, July 10, and the Pistons’ squad, led by Ron Holland and 2025 draft pick Chaz Lanier, will open its five-game slate with a matchup against the New York Knicks at 6 p.m. Friday, July 11.
