Gwinnett and Walton County school closings as a result of Hurricane Helene – Your Local News

Following Gov. Brian Kemp’s State of Emergency declaration in advance of Hurricane Helene, local schools have made some decisions on school closings. This information will be updated as any updates are given.
Walton County Public Schools:
Walton County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 27, and all extracurricular activities have been cancelled, per recommendations of Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Walton County Schools will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, Sept. 26, but extracurricular activities will not take place due to Hurricane Helene’s approach.
Social Circle City Schools:
- Thursday: School will operate as usual; however, all after-school activities will be canceled, except the After-Care Program, which will proceed as scheduled.
- Friday: Schools will be closed
Loganville Christian Academy:
- Normal school day tomorrow — all after school activities including After Care are canceled.
- Friday – School is closed. Gold Out Tailgate canceled. The Varsity Football Game vs GWA has been moved to Saturday 9/28 at 11:00 AM at LCA.
Gwinnett County Public Schools:
In an abundance of caution, Gwinnett County Public Schools has made the following decisions:
- Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, will be a Digital Learning Day. All after-school activities are canceled. Due to safety concerns, meals will not be delivered. All staff will report to their locations.
- On Friday, September 27, 2024, Gwinnett County Public Schools will be closed, all after-school activities are canceled. Twelve-month staff will work from home to complete essential tasks.
- All GCPS activities and events on Saturday, September 28, are canceled.
- School and activities will resume on Monday, September 30.
Monroe Country Day School:
- Thursday, Sept. 26, School will be open but there will be no flag football after school.
- Friday, Sept. 27, School will be closed and there will be no extra curricular activities
